The upper eliminates the standard midfoot saddle, allowing the suede and synthetic overlays to flow from heel to toe over the mesh base, creating a fast, streamlined look. While the evolved design represents one of the most dramatic changes from one model generation to the next that the 990 has ever undergone, the biggest leap forward occurs inside. The additional cushioning of the FuelCell midsole means that the evolution of the 990 is not only visible but also tangible. New Balance Made in USA shoes contain a domestic value of 70% or more. Made in USA accounts for only a limited portion of New Balance's US sales.
